5 Amino – 1MQ

5-Amino-1MQ is a small, membrane-permeable molecule that inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme implicated in metabolic regulation and energy balance. By targeting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ has been studied for its potential effects on weight management, insulin sensitivity, and muscle function. Each bottle contains 60 capsules, formulated exclusively for laboratory research purposes.

What is 5-Amino-1MQ?

5-Amino-1MQ is a synthetic compound designed to selectively inhibit NNMT, an enzyme that plays a role in cellular metabolism and energy homeostasis. Elevated NNMT activity has been associated with obesity and insulin resistance. By inhibiting NNMT, 5-Amino-1MQ aims to modulate metabolic pathways, potentially influencing fat accumulation and glucose metabolism. This compound is intended solely for scientific investigation and is not approved for human or veterinary use.

Structure

  • Chemical Formula: C₁₀H₁₁N₂⁺
  • Synonyms: 5-Amino-1-methylquinolin-2(1H)-one

5-Amino-1MQ Research

5-Amino-1MQ and Weight Management

Preclinical studies have investigated the role of 5-Amino-1MQ in weight regulation. In a study involving diet-induced obese mice, administration of 5-Amino-1MQ led to significant reductions in body weight and white adipose tissue mass. Notably, these effects occurred without alterations in food intake, suggesting that 5-Amino-1MQ may enhance energy expenditure and metabolic rate. [1]

5-Amino-1MQ and Insulin Sensitivity

Research indicates that NNMT inhibition by 5-Amino-1MQ may improve insulin sensitivity. In vitro studies demonstrated that 5-Amino-1MQ treatment increased intracellular NAD⁺ levels and suppressed lipogenesis in adipocytes. In vivo, mice treated with 5-Amino-1MQ exhibited reduced serum insulin levels and improved glucose tolerance, highlighting its potential impact on metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes. [2]

5-Amino-1MQ and Muscle Function

Emerging studies suggest that 5-Amino-1MQ may influence muscle physiology. In aged mice, treatment with 5-Amino-1MQ improved grip strength and endurance. Additionally, when combined with exercise, 5-Amino-1MQ enhanced muscle performance more than exercise alone, indicating a potential synergistic effect on muscle function. [3]
